RDU February 2024
From President Anne
This coming week is committee week and please remember to look at your budgets so the board can do a budget review at the February board meeting.
The Container Deposit Scheme is booming and our proud sponsors, the Community Bank Mount Martha is thrilled with the branding on our trailer and bins!
Rob Davies is doing an amazing job coordinating our CDS relationships and container pick-ups, with a fantastic team in support.
Peter Rawlings is doing a phenomenal job with the administration of our CDS. This is no easy task. Every single item is entered onto his super spreadsheets. We must be grateful that Peter’s and my father Barry passed on an obsession for spreadsheets to his children.
Below you can read our first quarterly report, with some great results to date! (RCMM CDS UPDATE 31.1.24)
Please keep having conversations with potential CDS partners and soon we will have bags and be able to encourage family, friends and neighbours to collect and donate.
Our Rotary Club has a long association with The Briars, through the building of the original Estuary Boardwalk, through to tree planting and the building of the Wildlife Sanctuary feral exclusion fence.
It was twelve years ago this week that then Briars Park Senior Conservation Parks Ranger, Jarrod Ruch wrote to me as the then Club President asking if we would help with a project at The Briars.
He wrote, "a project that the Rotary Club could work on would be the new feral exclusion fence for the Wildlife Sanctuary to protect endangered species and increase the educational outcomes of the Sanctuary"
Colin Stokes, the late John Marshall, Merv Williams and others from our club and community stood up and helped with what became a major project of our club - the building of a "feral exclusion fence." Our Ward Councillor at the time who helped secure the funding for the building of that fence was our own then (Cr) Anne Shaw.

Anne Shaw moderating a community meeting
So here we are a dozen years later seeing a community stand up for the very reason that we helped build that fence, "to protect the endangered species".
This last week Anne Shaw was invited to Moderate a packed and passionate community meeting on what has become a very sensitive issue for Mount Martha and beyond, and in her usual manner, she chaired the forum with distinction.
As a Rotary Club, we did help build that "feral exclusion fence" and today, we proudly stand by it and everything it stands for and everything it protects!.
