This week out speaker was Angie Fly, Coordinator and Secretary of Sunshine Reserve Conservation and Fireguard Group.
Angie spoke about the 20 hectare, linear reserve which stretches 3.8 kilometres from Port Phillip.
Koalas, Wallabies, Buff Banded Rails, Wood ducks, Echidnas and indigenous orchids are present, they also look after the stand of Snow Gums on Forest Drive. Sunshine is part of a network of bio links, the heart of Mount Martha.
The Sunshine Reserve Conservation and Fireguard Group established in 1997 has done amazing work and very different to the drainage reserve it was in the 1930’s.
The work done by the group involves the removal of woody weeds and invasive weeds to promote indigenous flora opportunities to recover and regenerate. Malcolm Legg has been doing a comprehensive study of the flora and fauna.
They have regular events including Clean up Australia, Weedbusters and National Tree Day and engage in community education.
The future challenges include extreme weather events, the potential sale and development of Veale’s estate and weed encroachment from neighbouring properties.

Wednesday was sausage sizzling at Mornington Community Support Centre with Rob Davies and Byron Groves, a fantastic service they offered assisting people with their bills, with a complementary sausage and coffee on offer.

Mornington Football 13.4.24
On Saturday we had our first Mornington Football Netball Club collection with David Wheeler organising and overseeing the "Bulldogs" first home game for the season.
With the trailer set up next to the food stands, and bins displayed around the ground, there were plenty of collection points for patrons during the game.
We collected 1,754 containers on the night and Sunday morning saw us counting back at the MCSC.
The next home game is ANZAC Day and that should be a great opportunity as well.

The Dandenong Cluster helped out at Browns Reserve in Noble Park with the Mount Martha crew completing the unload of Browns on Saturday, readying the RORP trailer for Phillip Island.
Another seven to be completed by the end of May, mainly from around Berwick, with the next Container, to Cape Town in about July/August, then Cambodia in December/January.
