Support has been provided to the Mornington Park Primary School Little Learners decodable books literacy program for Years Prep – 2 and advanced learning levels. This initiative is through the Decodable Books program. The Little Learners books are delightful stories that children can read by applying their phonics knowledge. The books increase in length and complexity as the children move through the program. The school had a limited resources of the Decodable Books - insufficient to allow students full access to increase their individual literacy learning. Through the donation of funds of totaling $5800 which consisted of $2900 from the Rotary Club Mount Martha and the club contribution being matched from the RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service) Compassionate Grants program, full sets of the books program were able to be purchased.
Stacie McCullough, Assistant Principal said “The children are all going to benefit greatly from these wonderful books. They are all excited about having some new books to read next year”.

The club has undertaken a number of projects at the Mornington Park Primary School such as landscaping, building minor works and certain maintenance/improvement tasks. The re-development of an outdoor area at the school. The work shown, was the building of 3 planter boxes for planting vegetables for the kitchen garden program. Rotarians worked with Jeff and Glen from the school and school students filled the boxes with the soil.

The final phase will be the planting of trees and shrubs around the perimeter of the paved area.

The purpose was to build a new bike enclosure to provide easier access for parents and children to place their bicycles on arrival at school and to provide an enclosure which is secure and weatherproof.  The existing bicycle enclosure was a very basic structure which provided little security or weather protection for the bicycles. Because of the security issue, bicycles had been stolen during the day hence many parents would not let children ride to school. Funding for the project came from Rotary Club fundraising projects and a Rotary Foundation District Grant.
