Birthing Kit Project for Ingin, Komea and surrounding villages in the Southern Highlands of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Through the assistance of Rotary Australia World Community Service (RAWCS) the Rotary Club is to provide an initial supply of 200 sterile, hygienic birthing kits from Birthing Kit Foundation at a cost of $1,000 to provide a cleaner, safer birthing experience for village women who would most likely find a secluded spot on the ground in the bush. There, with the aid of an experienced village woman, the baby is born. Given these non-sterile and unhygienic conditions, the mortality rate for newborn babies is unacceptably high. It is not unusual for the mother to also lose her life due to avoidable complications. Hospital births are rarely available to remote village women and birthing kits are a far safer and better alternative to the traditional birthing methods.

"Repairing Bodies and Rebuilding Lives"
Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeon, anesthetists, nurses and allied health professions to provide life-changing surgery and medical training to 17 countries across the Asia Pacific Region
Mount Martha Rotary has contributed $5,000. In association with other Rotary Clubs on the Mornington Peninsula, the goal figure of $60,000 is required for a forthcoming round of surgical appointments in 2023. The club recognises the outstanding service that the Interplast Surgeons, Nurses and Support staff have provided to less privileged mainly Pacific Island communities over the years.
We at Rotary Club of Mount Martha are excited to be working with the 7 other Mornington Peninsula Rotary clubs and the Mornington Peninsula Shire to support the development of the Peninsula Trail by providing community facilities as part of their celebration of Rotary’s Centenary in Australia.
