From President Anne
A wonderful effort from Roger and the club over the long weekend and some terrific results as Roger outlines below. Congratulations to all involved!
Can I ask each of you to think about providing at least one person to receive our bulletin. All you need is an okay from them and an email address! That’s your challenge for the week. It is important to get out the message of what our club is doing in the community.
And please RSVP for our 50th Anniversary celebration to be held on Sunday 21st April, and note that an attendance sheet will be passed around this Monday at the meeting.
This week we welcome Mick Simmons from the Mental Health Safety Net as our guest speaker and appreciate all he is doing in our community.

Outdoor Living Expo
Well that was a big effort by our club on a very hot weekend.
We were certainly busy in the mornings and thankfully for us out in the heat the traffic volumes dropped off in the afternoons. From reports the expo was successful despite attendance figures of about 8,000 down from I think about 12,000 last year. (“Only mad dogs and English men go out in the midday sun”)
A big, big thank you to the 15 Rotarians who gave their time, especially Bill Cummins (7:30 starts) and Colin Stokes who both helped out on all four days of the Expo and Lyn’s sister who covered 5 shifts.
Overall the club will raise $2,975 from 119 hours over 41 shift positions.(Budget 144 hours and 52 shifts) We were on occasions a little short handed but we coped with help from Rotary friends and family.
Perhaps the only disappointing aspect was the lack of community support and involvement. Our original intent in taking on this exercise was to share the proceeds with our community charities. Despite our best intent we ultimately had only one shift from an outside organisation.

Vale, PP Peter Jennings
Sadly this week we acknowledge the passing of our clubs 1983-84 president, Peter Jennings. Peter had been unwell for a number of years with significant health issues.
Peter was an enigmatic person who established his accounting practice in Mornington in the 1980’s. The practice still exists today and is our clubs registered auditor.
As we this year celebrate our fiftieth birthday Peter presided over the clubs tenth birthday. In this year 1983-84 with a Rotary International theme of “Share Rotary – Serve People” the Club reached a membership high of 44, tenth highest in our district. It saw the first of our 38 consecutive Golf Day fund raisers and was the year our Club hosted the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Programme at Mt Eliza which our Peter Rawlings attended. As well the club surprised Nick Roberts with a “This is Your Life”.
The clubs condolences go to Peter’s wife Janny and family at this sad time.
Whilst I had met Peter I did not know him all that well. I did in a past life employ Janny at Cook & Heathcote Printers and found her a diligent employee and pleasant company.
81,000 containershave now come through the OTC since we started and our donor and supporter partners keep growing. We thank each and every one of them for their ongoing support.
Please let Peter or Rob know if you have containers to donate, complete the CDS Tally Form (see link above) and return to Peter Rawlings. Thank you.
